        I.S Isolated Communication Interface

The Type 3 Isolated Communication Interface provides a galvanically isolated, intrinsically safe, simplex serial communications bridge between separately powered intrinsically safe systems. The 12V ICI is installed as pairs, one node in each isolated system. Up to four 6.1V ICIs can be installed together to enable any topology of separately powered networks.

The Holville Type 3 ICI is tested to meet the requirements of AS2380.7. The units carry NSW MDA and ANZEx certification.

Features

  • Must be powered by an intrinsically safe PSU or UPS.
  • Data rate adjustable to 9600 baud (dependant on separation distance between ICI,s)
  • CRC-16 error detection to ensure transmission data integrity.
  • 2-wire connection between isolated systems.
  • Can cover distances up to 10Km.
  • Enables intrinsically safe data logging systems containing many power supplies to be safely networked to a single safe area control station.
(Each intrinsically safe power supply in the system is galvanically isolated from the others while allowing logged data and control commands to traverse these isolated systems. )
  • Can be used to set up double or triple redundant data paths to a safe area.

Applications

For use in the Holville Type 3 intrinsically safe network, the Isolated Communications Interface has 4 main functions:

  1. To provide a galvanically isolated interface between separately powered networks
  2. To allow separately powered networks to be safely networked to a single safe area control station/interface
  3. To allow data to be reliably transmitted over long distances (approx. 10km)
  4. To allow double or triple redundant data paths to a safe area for critical data.
